Hot Fudge Brownie Ice Cream

Happy Friday, everyone! Ben and I just got back from an insanely busy trip to Indianapolis, and I am wiped! There’s always so much to do when we’re in town–we’re lucky to have tons of friends who still live there and want to hang out with us. It definitely makes for a busy few days when we’re there, though. Sadly, we can never see everyone we want to, and we missed some big names this time around. Thankfully we will be back in just over a month and will hopefully see everyone then! But for now, I’m recovering with a lazy day in bed and a bowl of fabulous hot fudge brownie ice cream.

Basil Pesto

I have a love/hate the weeks where I feel like I can’t seem to catch up on sleep. While I may spend my days feeling exhausted, in reality, it’s actually a good thing. We’ve been in St. Louis for almost a year now, and we’ve got things to do, friends to hang out with, and events to attend. This time last year, I was worried it would take us ages to make new friends and find where we fit in this city, so the fact that I’m out until all hours of the night and up early on weekends is secretly really fantastic. It just doesn’t feel that way when 8pm rolls around and I can barely keep my eyes open. Nights like these call for quick and easy meals. Last week we talked barbecue sauce, which I used in a pretty killer slow-cooker rib recipe. This week we’re discussing another one of my favorite sauces: basil pesto.

Classic Margaritas

Ahhh, margaritas. The perfect thing to get us through this Monday. I am in the midst of a lifelong love affair with margaritas, and I don’t see that ever changing. There’s just something about the tart/sweet/salty combo that I can’t get enough of. And since I already have one fancy margarita recipe on the blog, I figured it was time we indulged in the classic.

Whiskey Chipotle Barbecue Sauce

If I had my way in life, I would make just about everything we eat from scratch. Breads, salad dressings, and sauces are high on the list of my would-be priorities. It’s a fantasy world, to be sure. There, days would be 30 hours long, it wouldn’t rain when you want to play kickball, and your margarita glass would always be full. Sadly, I don’t live in that world (we ran out of tequila last week and the universe doesn’t seem to want us to play kickball ever again–go away rain clouds!). At least I made us homemade barbecue sauce to ease some of the pain.

Dark Chocolate Truffles

Want to know what kitchen task I hate more than anything in the world? It’s not chopping onions or pitting cherries or even skinning chickpeas. I love doing seriously weirdo things, like kneading bread by hand or stirring risotto. I’ll don’t mind juicing limes or mincing garlic, but the thing I despise? Dipping little balls of anything into chocolate. Buckeyes? You’re delicious, but must we? Cake pops? Kill me now. You’ve ended in tears more times than I care to count. And truffles? Oooh man, it’s just not worth it.
